Happy 90th Birthday Herb – a KSN Hero

Happy 90th Birthday Herb – a KSN Hero

On 24th July, Herb St Pierre celebrated being 90 years young.  Herb has been a member of the Rockhampton renal family for the past 41 years.  Herb’s wife Val commenced haemodialysis in May 1976 in the Rockhampton Hospital, and later commenced home haemodialysis. Val, Herb and their young children were a team.  Herb continued to work at Qld Aluminium. Very involved with church and local community they absorbed ‘dialysis’ into their daily lives. This wonderful supportive family managed home dialysis until Val received a kidney transplant in December 1982. In July 1991 Val again required dialysis, with home-based Peritoneal dialysis which kept them in their community and fully involved. In 1993 Val transferred to hospital haemodialysis. This changed things, with Herb (and friends) as dedicated volunteer drivers - Gladstone to Rockhampton, 3 times per week for Val’s dialysis.  Val holidayed and dialysed in several different units around the country, always with Herb at her side.  Sadly, Val passed away in 2004, and is fondly remembered by our renal...
